In the "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel Pi opens the early chapters by introducing himself. Pi mentions a lot of things from his religion to his interest in Zoology. Pi then talks about how he has been surrounded by animals his whole life and the relationships between him and all the animals. The relationships are to the point where he could control any animal he stepped infront of, except one. Not a Hyena. Not a orangutan, and not mighty king of the jungle. It was a tiger, named Richard Parker. Pi had spoken of the Tiger as an animal that could not be controlled, but I feel the Tiger is an animal that is misunderstood. Fast-forward to Pi being stranded in the ocean with his biggest fear (Tiger), and I feel it is a real possibility that Pi learns to love and care for the Tiger with the name of Richard Parker. I feel this way because Pi speaks of tigers in a mysterious way, and seems to not know much about them. This leads me to infer that by the end of the novel, Pi will develop...
ReplyDeleteCurrently, Pi has crossed the first threshold and is on the road of many trials becuase he, two predatory animals, a orangutan, and a zebra (119). He has to figure out how to survive until he can spot a ship or reach land. Also, he is going through through terrible grief after watching his family drown. In a way, he is battling physical demons such as the sharks and the hyenas, but also trying to keep hope and survive.
I predict that the zebra will dye and that the tiger will survive because the leg of the zerbra has already been bitten off and the tiger is a strong, uncontrollable predatory animal so he is at the top of the ecosystem on the boat. Also, it is really hard to be on a boat with a bunch of wild animals and not be attacked, so I wonder how he will avoid that.
I agree with Nikhila about the zebra dying. In the situation of Pi and the animals, it is survival of the fittest and the zebra is the weakest among them because of the injured leg so it will most likely be killed or eaten.
DeletePi starts the road of trials when he is on the boat with Richard Parker, the orangutan (Orange Juice), the hyena, and the zebra. The hyena kills both the zebra and the orangutan, and is eventually killed by Richard Parker. Temptation happens when Pi is on the verge of giving up, but he finds some food and water, and he learns how to fish too. He has to give up being vegetarian because he wouldn't be able to survive.
ReplyDeleteI think that Pi is eventually going to find his way back to land without dying of malnutrition, and Richard Parker probably will too. I'm interested to see what will happen to Richard Parker if they reach land; will he leave Pi or stay with him? And will he try to attack Pi?
